The 61st Filmfare Awards (which took place last night) and the 51st Filmfare Awards (that happened on February 25th, 2006) have a lot of similarities. Seriously, if you really think about it, we’re sure you will agree with the points I’ve mentioned below. Have a look and tell us what you think about these observations.
1) They were both NOT held at the YRF Studios in Andheri
The venue for the event in 2006 was at the Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai and the event which happened last night was held at the Dome at NSCI, Worli, Mumbai. In between these years, Filmfare has always happened at the Yashraj Studios in Andheri (West), Mumbai.
2) Controversial men got the award for Best Debut
Shiney Ahuja and Sooraj Pancholi
Shiney Ahuja had won the award back in 2006, a few years later he was accused of rape which by and large ruined his career. Sooraj Pancholi won it this year and the actor has been in the news for his alleged role in JiahKhan‘s suicide case since 2 years now.
3) Amitabh Bachchan won the Best Actor award
Amitabh Bachchan in Black and Piku
In 2006, he won the best actor (Critics and Popular) for his magnificent performance in Black. In 2016, he won the best actor (Critics) for his brilliant performance in this year’s Piku!
4) Sanjay Leela Bhansali won the award for the best director
Sanjay Leela Bhansali
Then for Black and now for Bajirao Mastani!
5) The hero and supporting actress of SLB’s movie won the award for the best actor and best supporting actress respectively
Black and Bajirao Mastani
Amitabh Bachchan won the best actor and Ayesha Kapur won the best actor in a supporting role (female) for Black. Ranveer Singh won the best actor trophy for Bajirao Mastani and Priyanka Chopra won the supporting actress award for the same movie.
6) A child actress stole our hearts
Ayesha and Harshaali
Ayesha Kapur in Black and Harshaali Malhotra in Bajrangi Bhaijaan are proof that talent has no age.
7) Best debut (female) was won by actresses who are known more for their sheer talent than fashion choices
Vidya Balan and Bhumi Pednekar
Vidya Balan is a powerhouse of talent, and that could be seen from the first movie she did – Parineeta. The actress managed to hold her own in front of established stars like Saif Ali Khan and Sanjay Dutt and went on to become one of the most respected heroines in the industry. Bhumi Pednekar stunned the audience with her performance in one of the best movies this year – Dum Laga Ke Haisha. Both these women have proved that you don’t need to be a glam doll to get noticed.
