Royal Roots! Bollywood Stars Who Were Born into Regal Families.


Bollywood stars, style and luxury go hand in hand. Considering the big bucks our stars earn, their plush lifestyles come as no surprise. However, for some, the opulence meant from the day they were born. Well, that’s because of their royal roots.

There are a number of Bollywood stars who hail from royal families and chose to be a part of the big Bollywood clan. While money, respect, class and lavishness were not new for them, it was perhaps their passion of acting that drew them to the showbiz. Take a look at some such celebs who were born into regal families.

Bhagyashree


The one film wonder hails from the royal Marathi family of Sangli in Maharashtra. Her father Vijay Singhrao Madhavrao Patwardhan is the current Raja of Sangli.

Raima and Reema Sen


The bong sisters belong to the royal family of Tripura. Their actual surname is Dev Verma. Their roots go back to the royals of Baroda. Their paternal great-grandmother was the only daughter of Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III of Baroda. Her paternal grandmother, Ila Devi, was the princess of Cooch Behar, whose younger sister Gayatri Devi, who was the Maharani of Jaipur.

Hmmm….some royalty, must say!

Sonal Chauhan


The Jannat actress hails from a conservative and traditional Rajput family. Her parents are Rajputs from Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh. Sonal’s father is a Police Inspector and belongs to a royal Chouhan family.  

Aditi Rao Hydari


Aditi Rao Hydari was born into two royal lineages, that of Muhammad Saleh Akbar Hydari and J. Rameshwar Rao of erstwhile Raja of Wanaparthy family. She is the great granddaughter of Akbar Hydari and the grandniece of Muhammad Saleh Akbar Hydari, former Governor of Assam.

Her maternal grandparents are Raja J Rameshwar Rao who headed the administration of Wanaparthi state during its day, and Shanta Rameshwar Rao, a much respected educationalist of Hyderabad and is the Chairperson of publishing house Orient Blackswan.

Saif Ali Khan


Titled as ‘Nawab of Bollywood’, the actor is the son of late Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, who was the former captain of the Indian cricket team and the titular Nawab of Pataudi from 1952 until 1971. His paternal grandfather, Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi was the eighth Nawab of Pataudi, paternal grandmother Sajida Sultan was Begum of Bhopal and his paternal great-uncle was Sher Ali Khan Pataudi, who served in the British Indian Army.

After his father’s demise, the stature of  ‘Nawab of Pataudi’ was passed onto Saif, in 2011. 

Alisa Khan



Bollywood’s newbie, Alisa Khan belongs to the royal lineage of Mohammad Nawab Ghaziauddin Khan. The entire Ghaziabad in Delhi NCR is named after this nawab.
 Alisa has done quite a few Punjabi videos and is set to act opposite Emraan Hashmi in her next film. She was last seen in the film My Husband's Wife.
